– To encourage better integration for children within the classroom

-To provide a creative outlet for children’s aggression and negative feelings

– To improve children’s feelings of self worth and self esteem

– To allow opportunities for expressing and channelling positive talents and emotions

– To free children who feel trapped in book learning situations

– To provide a non threatening environment and culturally appropriate environment

– To assist in laying the foundations for learning the value of education

– To encourage the development of supportive relationships with an adult and with their peers

– To integrate with other relevant area of the curriculum: e.g. S.P.H.E and language development

– To be flexible in how the programme is delivered using ongoing evaluation

– To help develop emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, spiritually and aesthetically

– Through all the above to positively impact upon early school leaving which manifests itself most acutely in areas of disadvantage and poverty.
